Katamari

This has to be one of the most addictive video games of all time... well in my opinion anyways. It's a game for PS2 and the basic premise is that you are the Prince of the whole cosmos and your father "the King of the Cosmos" accidentally got rid of all the stars in the sky, your task is to roll up things on earth to make more stars for the sky. The bigger the things on earth the bigger the stars in the sky. That sounds simple right? Roll up the world? Yeah you'd think that, but no! You have to use the two joysticks to control the Katamari (star) as you move around the very messy world of random junk that you roll up. So fun though!

I'm told that in Japan, where the game originates, games with an affinity towards collecting things are particularly popular, making this game a hit as in addition to rolling up progressively bigger katamari you can also work on collecting one of every object in the game! The game keeps track of what you have and what you need for you.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katamari_Damacy

The best part is... there is a 2nd game!!!

This one is similar to the first, except it focuses more on the fans of the first game and Prince's cousins, each fan has requested that the Katamari be of a specific type or size so some are made of fire, ice, all cows, things like that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Love_Katamari

There is also a version for the PSP according to Namco:
http://www.namcobandaigames.com/games/memykatamari/

and I'm told that a version will be coming out for Xbox or PS3 in the near future.

Settlers of Catan

Settlers of Catan is one of my favourite board games of all time (up there with Trivial Pursuit, Boggle, Scategories & Cranium) it's a strategy game, similar to Risk but more about cultivating a world than over-taking other people's worlds.

"Gameplay:

The players in the game represent the eponymous settlers, establishing a colony on the previously uninhabited island of Catan. The island itself is laid out randomly at the beginning of each game from hexagonal tiles ("hexes") of different land types. Numbered tokens are then placed on each of the tiles, except for one desert hex.[5]

Starting with two settlements and adjoining road sections, players build roads, settlements, and eventually cities as they settle the island. Roads are built along the edges of the hexes, and settlements at the corners; no two settlements may be built on adjacent corners. Positioning of roads and settlements allows a player to deny other players access to essential resources, and good building is one route to victory.[4]

Each turn, a roll of the two dice determines which hexes produce resources. This is the main random element in the game. Normally, players with settlements adjacent to those hexes receive resource cards of the appropriate type, with cities yielding more resources. However, if the dice roll is 7, the "robber" token must be moved to a different hex. This allows the player to prevent that hex from producing resources and to steal a resource card from another player.

The resource cards can be spent to build more roads or settlements, upgrade settlements to cities, and to obtain development cards for later use; or they can be stored for trade or later use. When a seven is rolled, players with too many stored resources lose half their stored resources, making the choice of whether to build or store resources a difficult one.

Players are allowed to trade among each other the resources they have produced, and to trade "off the island" for a hefty price. By building settlements in certain positions, players may obtain better off-island trading prices. Bad luck in the game can be mitigated by trading, and trading is the main method of player interaction in the game; astute trading is another route to victory.[4] If a player is winning, other players may refuse to trade; this allows them to catch up with the leader.

A player receives a victory point for each settlement built, and another for each settlement upgraded to a city. Various other achievements, such as establishing the longest road, grant a player additional victory points. The victor is the first player to possess ten victory points on his turn.

There is no combat. Apart from moving the robber, refusing to trade, cutting off building routes, and using certain development cards, there is no way to harm other players. The layout of the board and restrictions on building allow for a player to be boxed in through poor play or bad luck. Also, given the random component of the board layout, it's possible for a player to gain a monopoly on a certain resource, then demand steep trade rates from the other players. Home games generally take between one and two hours to complete.

Teuber's original design was for a large game of exploration and development in a new land.[6] Between 1993 and 1995 Teuber and Kosmos refined and simplified the game into its current form. Unused mechanics from that design went on to be used in Teuber's following games, Entdecker and Löwenherz. The game's first expansion, Seafarers of Catan, adds the concept of exploration, and the combined game (sometimes known as "New Shores") is probably the closest game to Teuber's original intentions.[1"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Settlers_of_Catan

There are quite a few different expansions for the game as well as the original board games, as well as expanders to allow for more people to play the original and each expansion including Seafarers of Catan & Knights & Cities. Plus a whole slew of other Catan games based on the original including Starfarers of Catan & Catan Kid's.

Song of the Week

"Ziggy Stardust" - David Bowie

Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Wierd and Gilly,
The Spiders from Mars.
He played it left hand, but made it too far,
Became the special man, then we were Ziggy's Band.

Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo
Like some cat from Japan, he could lick 'em by smiling
He could leave 'me to hang
Came on so loaded man, well hung and snow white tan.

So where were the spiders while the fly tried to break our balls
Just the beer light to guide us,
So we bitched about his fans and should we crush his sweet hands ?

Ziggy played for time, jiving us that we were Voodoo
The kids was just crass, he was the naz
With God given ass
He took it all too far but boy could he play guitar.

Making love with his ego Ziggy sucked up into his mind
Like a leper messiah
When the kids had killed the man I had to break up the band

iPhone

Have you seen these new iPhone things? They're all the rage apparently... I think the idea is pretty neat, although just more crap than one would need in a phone... I do however enjoy their touch screens, particularly the part for viewing photos, as they show in the commercials, the guy finger swipes from pic to pic, enlarges & shrinks them by pinching and rotates them with a swirl of the finger... now that kind of technology I would love!

Croc Charms

I have, as of late, taken a particular interest in croc charms to adorn my many crocs... these neat little charms, often refferred to as Jibbitz, are little charms that pop into the holes of crocs, or other type clog shoes. They come in thousands upon thousands of different pictures & styles for both boys & girls.

If you are looking to buy some they can usually be purchased where Crocs are sold, most shoe stores, Green Earth, Ardenes, Claire's, Giant Tiger, occasionally Wal-Mart & Zellers, or a lot of dollar stores sell cheaper-made ones. If you buy the cheaper made ones you may want to pull them apart (the rubber picture from the black backing) and re-glue them with super glue so they don't get bumped off during wear as easily. The best place to buy them though, if you want to buy quite a few is E-bay, because you can get bulk lots for little cash, these are the search terms that have brought back the most luck for me:

croc charm
clog charm
shoe charm
Shoe-Doodles
Shoe-Thingz
Jibbitz
Dazzler
charmz

They can also be put onto nifty bracelets that most vendors of the charms sell:

Song of the Week

"A British Tar" by Gilbert and Sullivan
[HMS Pinafore]

A British tar is a soaring soul
As free as a mountain bird
His energetic fist should be ready to resist
A dictatorial word
His nose should pant and his lip should curl
His cheeks should flame and his brow should furl
His bosom should heave and his heart should glow
And his fist be ever ready for a knock-down blow

His eyes should flash with an inborn fire
His brow with scorn be wrung
He never should bow down to a domineering frown
Or the tang of a tyrant tongue
His foot should stamp and his throat should growl
His hair should curl and his face should scowl
His eyes should flash and his breast protrude
And this should be his customary attitude

Stretch Marks

I found an informational site on what causes and treatment for stretch marks, unfotunately it's a little ad-laden, but it still has some good stuff:

http://www.strangemarks.com/

Treatments include:

"Home remedy for stretch marks , stretch mark remover and other things
Stretch marks do fade over time (about six to twelve months) and become much less noticeable than they are when they are new. There is little you can do when you have stretch marks without the intervention of a dermatologist or plastic surgeon though much research is going on in this area.

There are many collagen creams on the market which claim to improve stretch marks, such as those featured in the products section. (pasted below)
Laser treatment
Surgery
Tretinoin - Retin A
Cocoa butter cream claims to soften scars
Some people think zinc supplements help but as with all supplements, check with your doctor.
Fake tanning creams and lotions can camouflage stretch marks but regular suntanning will not help as they are not pigmented and will not change colour in the sun as the rest of your skin will.

Home remedies include:
vitamin E oil, which some believe can help prevent stretch marks in the first place
olive oil
caster oil
coffee beans
peanut butter"

Products Suggested:

"So here are our current favourite featured products. Each of them offers a full refund if you are less than satisfied with the results after you have tried them. We think they will help you. They are:
1 StriVectin from Klein Becker
2 Barmon Stretch Mark Cream
3 Stretta from Zenmed"

Beauty Sleep

Another article, from the same site as yesterday... I don't know if there is more to either article, they end a bit abruptly, but still a good read....

Understanding Beauty Sleep

Many people have used the phrase "beauty sleep" throughout history. There are many reasons why a good night's sleep is referred to as beauty sleep. One of the main reasons is that when a person gets enough rest, their skin looks healthy and young. The next reason why people use the term beauty sleep is because of the fact that getting a good night's sleep makes a person healthy. When a person is healthy, it shows in the outward appearance of their beauty. The next reason why people use the term beauty sleep is because when a person sleeps well, they can think more clearly and their mood is generally lighter. This is a beautiful thing. Here, you will learn many effective steps on how you can get the beauty sleep that you require each night.

The first thing that you should do in order to ensure that you get the beauty sleep that you require is to make sure that you prepare your bedroom for sleep. There are many things that you can do to your sleeping environment in order to prepare for the rest that is required to make you simply beautiful. The first thing that you should do is to make sure that the bedroom is a quiet place. The second thing that you can do in your bedroom to get your beauty sleep is to make sure that the room is kept as dark as possible. While many people prefer a small nightlight, this is acceptable, but the room should otherwise be as dark as possible. In addition to this, the temperature in the area in which you sleep should be kept cool to ensure that you get your beauty rest.

The next thing that you should do in order to be sure that you get the right amount of beauty sleep is to make sure that you have a schedule in place for going to bed, and a schedule in place for waking up. If you do not have a set schedule when it comes to your cycle of sleep, it is sure to cause you difficulties in getting the right amount of sleep. It is important to have a schedule even if you do not work outside of the home or are not scheduled to be anywhere in particular. If you do sway from this schedule, it should only be on the time that you go to bed, not what time that you wake up each day.

Many people have various things in their room to keep them entertained. These things may include stereo systems, televisions, game systems, DVD players, computers, and other items. It is important that you steer away from having these items in your bedroom as it will interfere with your beauty sleep. The bedroom should be designated as a sleeping area only and nothing more. If you have other items in the bedroom that can disrupt your beauty sleep, they are sure to do just that.

Song of the Week

"You May Be Right" - Billy Joel

Friday night I crashed your party
Saturday I said I'm sorry
Sunday came and trashed me out again
I was only having fun
Wasn't hurting anyone
And we all enjoyed the weekend for a change

I've been stranded in the combat zone
I walked through Bedford Sty alone
Even rode my motorcycle in the rain
And you told me not to drive
But I made it home alive
So you said that only proves that I'm insane

You may be right
I may be crazy
Oh, but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light
Don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right

Well remember how I found you there
Alone in your electric chair
I told you dirty jokes until you smiled
You were lonely for a man
I said take me as I am
Cuz you might enjoy some madness for a while

Now think of all the years you've tried to
Find someone to satisfy you
I might be as crazy as you say
If I'm crazy then it's true
That it's all because of you
And you wouldn't want me any other way

You may be right
I may be crazy
Oh, but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
It's too late to fight
It's too late to change me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right

(sax solo)

You may be right
I may be crazy
But It just may be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light
Don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
You may be right

You may be wrong but you may be right
You may be wrong but you may be right
(repeat till end)

The Oreo!

An ode post to my favourite store bought cookie... the Oreo!

A poem:

Oreo Cookies
By James K. McAlister

Black and creamy cookies
Really drive me wild!
They charge me up like batteries
The way to be a child!

I love to eat by dozens
The cookies that everyone likes
Made by Mr. Christie
For adults to teens to tykes.

They come in a nice, small package,
Those sweet and crunchy snacks
The cookies are better than average
To eat when you relax!

Chocolate top and bottom,
Between, white filling glued.
I eat them by the handful
Cuz’ they're my favourite food!

When my tummy rumbles,
Things aren’t as bad as they seem.
Cookies in the cupboard
Will fulfill my dreams!

Information from Wiki:

"Oreo is a trademark for a popular sandwich cookie manufactured by the Nabisco Corporation (National Biscuit Company). The current design consists of a sweet, white filling commonly referred to as 'cream' or 'creme', sandwiched between two circular chocolate cookies.

Over 490 billion Oreo cookies have been sold since they were first introduced, making them the best selling cookie of the 20th century.[1] Its most recent packaging slogan is "Milk's Favorite Cookie", which is a slight change from "America's Favorite Cookie."

History:

Oreos were introduced by Nabisco Corporation, an American company, in February 1912 mainly to target the British market, whose biscuits were seen by Nabisco to be too 'ordinary'. [2] Originally, Oreos were mound-shaped and available in two flavors; lemon meringue and cream. In America, they were sold for 30 cents a pound in novel tin cans with glass tops, which allowed customers to see the cookies.

A newer design for the cookie was introduced in 1916, and as the cream filling was by far the more popular of the two available flavors, Nabisco discontinued production of the lemon meringue filling during the 1920s. The modern-day Oreo was developed in 1952 by William A Turnier, [3] to include the Nabisco logo.

There are many theories pointing to the origin of the name 'Oreo', including derivations from the French word 'Or', meaning gold (as early packaging was gold), or the Greek word 'Oros', meaning mountain or hill (as the original Oreo was mound shaped) or even the Greek word 'Oreos', meaning beautiful. Other theories are that the 're' from cream was 'sandwiched' between the two Os from chocolate, or the word 'just seemed like a nice, melodic combination of sounds'.

Oreos are very similar to the Hydrox cookie manufactured by Sunshine, which was introduced in 1908, leading to speculation that Oreo obtained the idea from Sunshine. Having lost market share to Oreo for years, Hydrox cookies were withdrawn in 1996[4] (and subsequently reintroduced under the Droxies name three years later)."

LightScribe

This seriously has to be some of the best technology out there right now! These new LightScribe CD & DVD burners allow you to actually etch a label onto the CD or DVD with the burner!

The actual LighScribe burners cost a bit more than typical burners and the cost of the CDs & DVDs is a bit more than normal DVDs (about $1.00 a disk, a bit cheaper in bulk or at some online vendors) but how cool would it be to have porfessional looking labels on your DVDs and not just those hokey sticker-kit ones you can currently buy?

Check it out!

Also (because u can't burn colours) you can buy a variety of colours of disks to act as the background to your etchings!

"LightScribe enables drives to burn a silk-screen-like, high-contrast label on the topside of CD or DVD media with a LightScribe dye coating. So now you can apply direct-disc labeling your DVD/CD media neatly. HP originally created the Lightscribe technology to use the same laser that burned the data to make the label for the other side of the disc. After completing a data burn, users are prompted to flip the disc over so they can burn a label onto it. "

"Lightscribe(also known as Light Scribe) is the latest technology in labeling discs. Monochromatic text and graphics can be etched on to the surface of the CD or DVD.

A Lightscribe capable burner and a Lightscribe DVD+R / CD-R will be needed to achieve the special effects. A Lightscribe DVD or CD will chemically react to the same laser device that is used to burn your data in a recordable media. The results are often a nostalgic, yet highly professional DVD or CD. It's a safe and non-toxic procedure that results in beautiful and lasting covers for your DVD and CDs. Forget using adhesives labels and rushed scribbles with a marker, Lightscribe media will make sure your DVD makes a lasting impression."

http://www.supermediastore.com/lightscribe-light-scribe-dvd-r-cd-r-media.html

"The special LightScribe discs are coated with a reactive dye that helps the label come to life. With this dye, your label will never show signs of fading from too much sunlight, etc. You should still keep these discs in a safe and protected spot, but the labels will last a long time. The discs can also be relabeled if you ever decide to change the design. You just have to choose your new label and then let the writer go to work! It can be done several times, in fact.

LightScribe was created by a Hewlett-Packard engineer and it's fairly new, but they are trying to get it out to more manufacturers, media personnel and software developers. Although it is an up and coming piece of equipment, you may be able to find the optical writers at your local computer stores. You can always check to see if they've made their way there yet and if not, you can always check back. They'll be there soon!"

Song of the Week

"The Gangster Song" - Josh Tobin

Don't playa-hate me
Play-playa hate, uhh, somebody else
Yo, Yo Yo I'm a gangster
Where my dogs at?
Bark with me if you're my dog
Yo, Yo Yo, I'm going
(Naww I don't wanna bark)
I'm going to give a shoutout to all the playa-haters
(we don't like playa-haters)
If you're a playa-hater don't playa-hate on me
I'm a gangster, Im a straight up
Grr, I'm steaming mad. Grr.

I'm a gangster, I'm a straight up "G"
The gangster life is the life for me
Shooting people by day, selling drugs by night
Being a gangster is Hell-up tight

I walk around town with a stark erection
then gave your mom a yeast infection
I saw the policeman and I punched him in the eye
"To serve and protect" : What a lie

I also don't like white people, you shouldn't too
And don't get me started about the Jews

I'm a gangster
Grr I'm mad
I'm a gangster
My Rhymes are bad
I'm a gangster
Iced out like a freezer
I'm a gangster
I don't listen to weezer

I dropped out of school at the age of three (why?)
'Cuz all the teachers tried to playa-hate on me (oh.)
My rhymes are cool, just like doing cocaine
My rhymes are hot, like a Burning Flame

Sisco is my homie hes a gangster too
Me and Sisco are the leaders of the gangster crew
I like to be in jail and he likes to sing and dance
Some say we're the perfect match

[interrupted by another voice]
Step off, Step back, Step Away!
Step back, Don't step forward step back
Don't step forwards step backwards
Don't step to me, Do not step to me-eee

[first voice raps again]
I'm giving a shout-out to my homies in cell block 8
Being in jail sucks cuz you always have to masterbate
Except when a Jewish person goes to jail all my homies cheer
They will make mince-meat out of his rear

Ben Petty helped me make the gangster beat to this song
I shot him in the face cuz he looked at me wrong

I'm a gangster
I drop bombs like Hiroshima
I'm a gangster
Bitch suck on my wiener
I'm a gangster
I drive a cool car
I'm a gangster
I smoke weed in a cigar

Yo! My gangster flow
Yo! Yo Yo Yo

I'm rolling on dubs iced out like hockey
got kicked out of Japan for drinking all the sake
Fuck a bitch, gimmie head ho
What's up to my dogs, yo yo yo

They play this song on the radio all day long
so everyone can hear my gangster song
Nobody thought I'd blow up like a Firestone tire...
Oh there's no beat left.

Die. Die you Santa Claus, die.
No, I don't wanna do a cappela.

[second voice again]
I like to slap bitches. I like to slap hoes.

maypole

What exactly is a maypole?

"The maypole is a tall wooden pole (traditionally of hawthorn or birch), sometimes erected with several long coloured ribbons suspended from the top, festooned with flowers, draped in greenery and strapped with large circular wreaths, depending on local and regional variances. What is often thought of as the "traditional" English/British maypole (a somewhat shorter, plainer version of the Scandinavian pole with ribbons tied at the top and hanging to the ground) is a relatively recent development of the tradition and is probably derived from the picturesque, Italianate dances performed in mid-19th century theatricals. It is usually this shorter, plainer maypole that people (usually school children) perform dances around, weaving the ribbons in and out to create striking patterns."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maypole

"The ceremony of the maypole and maypole dancing, is symbolic of renewed life. In folklore, the common practice was to bring a new pole into the village every year representing that year's incarnation of the spirit of all growing plants - hopefully encouraging a good harvest.

The tradition of dancing around the maypole is widespread through the UK, North America and Europe. Each dancer holds a ribbon and by dancing around the pole and weaving in and out of one another, the dancers gradually wind the ribbons in an intricate pattern down the pole. "

www.rosiespitutorials.com/mayptut.htm

Weaving a maypole:

"Introduction
On May Day eve, folks once went into the woods to collect branches and "go a-Maying." In the morning, they would emerge and the men would bring a live hawthorn tree to the village to make a maypole. Everyone from the highest-ranking official to the lowest peasant participated in the celebration as equals. The holiday evolved and now May Day, which once represented the beginning of summer, life, fertility and renewal, is now celebrated in most countries as International Labor Day.

Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need
Streamers
Audiotapes
Portable Tape Players
Flagpole
Flower Bouquets
Wooden Poles
Poles

Steps

Step One
Choose a pole that has plenty of room around its base. The taller, the better.

Step Two
Fasten an even number of streamers to the top of the pole. They should be about 1 1/2 times the height of the pole.

Step Three
Use different-colored streamers. Alternate two different colors or use many.

Step Four
Give each person decorating the maypole the end of a streamer. They may also want to hold a bouquet of flowers.

Step Five
Have every other participant face clockwise, the rest face counterclockwise.

Step Six
Play the selected music and let the dance begin.

Step Seven
Alternate between passing the person coming toward you on the left and on the right.

Step Eight
When the pole is wrapped, lay the bouquets on the ends of the streamers to hold them in place.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure everyone understands the instructions well in advance.
Nylon streamers are great - crepe paper tends to tear too easily for a very tall maypole. "

The internet movie database link:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116791/

and of course a description from Wiki...

"Killer Condom (also known as Kondom des Grauens) is a 1996 German comedy film based on the comic book of the same name by Ralf König. It was directed by Martin Walz and featured Jörg Buttgereit as it's special effects coordinator and H.R. Giger as a creative consultant.
It was distributed in the United States by Troma Entertainment.

Tagline: The rubber that rubs YOU out!

Plot:

Set in the seedy parts of New York City, Killer Condom follows gay detective Luigi Mackeroni (Samel), who has been hired to investigate a series of bizarre attacks at the Hotel Quickie in which their male guests have all had their penises mysteriously bitten off. While at the crime scene, he enlists the services of a beautiful young gigolo named Bill and invites him up to the crime room. Before the two men engage in intercourse, a carnivorous, living condom interrupts them and bites Mackeroni's testicle off.

Now on a personal vendetta, Mackeroni begins his lone quests to not only bring a stop to the rash of condom attacks, but also face his true feelings towards Bill the gigolo. Soon, the detective learns that the pernicious prophylactics are actually genetically-engineered creatures, part of a vast conspiracy of conservatives bent on ridding the world of sexual deviants."
