Westjet Lounges

I got a newsletter from WestJet recently announcing the launch of two new Westjet Lounges in Calgary & Vancouver, to date Westjet has two other lounges. I, as a somewhat frequent flier to Westjet, think this is really a waste of money on their part! In recent years WestJet prices have raised to be comparable to Air Canada or the late Canada 3000 (or was it 2000?) regardless it's appalling as WestJet was intended to be a cheap way to travel.

They cut corners to save money on flights by not serving meals but then they build & staff lounges? To what end? To be comparable to frufru hoity toity airlines with "business lounged"? You can't be hoity toity & cut corners! I think the money could go towards onbaord food that isn't of the "fast" variety or at the very least, not spend the money at all and keep flight costs down!

"WestJet Lounges

WestJet and Servisair are proud to announce the opening of two new WestJet lounges in the Calgary and Vancouver Airports. These new lounges offer the same great comfort that the Winnepeg and Ottawa lounges have been providing already. Our lounges offer a wide variety of services that are geared to making your wait time more enjoyable. They offer a wide range of business services as well as complimentary drinks and snacks. If you are flying out of any of these great airports, access to the lounge can be booked at www.westjetlounges.com."

Hi Amby:
Dave the WestJetter here (both a WestJet employee and an owner too).

The lounges aren't actually owned by WestJet. They are onwed and operated by companies like Servisair. We are simply providing access to them for our Guests, on a pay-for-use basis. So, the cost of the lounges aren't a factor in the cost of a flight.

Hopefully, we never become a frufru hoity toity airline, just one that continues to provide amazing service and a great travel experience at reasonable prices.

I hope that explanation helps a bit.

Yours truly,
Dave from WestJet
